Traceability

The traceability of palm oil

as proof of transparency
REPSA's production chain

All of our palm oil produced is totally traceable. We obtain fresh fruit bunches from our plantations, carefully selected suppliers, and known and documented sources.

REPSA’s supply area includes 12,524 hectares of its own plantations, 7,739 hectares of associated producers and 7,090 hectares of independent suppliers, with a total of 27,353 hectares. We do not have small producers. Our traceability process started in 2018.

We buy fruit directly from agricultural producing companies, without participation of intermediaries. This mechanism provides us transparency in our supply chain: the more direct the supply chain, the better.

Since 2020 we have created a fruit purchase protocol with a requirement that our suppliers comply with non-deforestation standards, no plantations on peat soils, and no exploitation (Policy NDPE), and be signatory of the NDPE standard.

In April 2021, we strengthened our Sustainability Policy, which seeks the production of sustainable palm oil throughout the supply chain. The application and compliance with the policy extends to companies owned by the Group, as well as suppliers and members of the supply chain. As part of the due diligence process, a plan was established to raise awareness and sign the policy commitment by suppliers.

Due to the liquid nature, palm oil cannot be traced as a solid object, however, methods used comprise the scope of the RSPO standard from chain of custody, complying with the highest standards of the industry.

We know the exact location and land use history of each oil palm plantation that supplies us. Therefore, we know that the plantations they supply us have not expanded into prohibited areas and they have no intention of doing so. Raw materials are supplied to us only from plantations specified in our contracts.

As a forerunner in supply chain transparency, we have released full data on our palm oil supply chain, which includes the following plantations.

Independents

REPSA develops an approach with its independent fruit suppliers to train them in good agricultural practices and establish specific records and procedures in their work. Through awareness training, we seek that independent producers make responsible use of phytosanitary products.

Every independent fruit supplier knows the prohibited chemicals, the permitted products, the entities authorized for their distribution, the dosing tables and the records with which they have to support their use.

In addition to the technical details necessary to carry out a successful application, they are trained in the importance of using personal protective equipment, essential for the safety of the workers of our independent suppliers.

All the trainings given are accompanied by periodic visits to supervise the suppliers’ agrochemical warehouses to corroborate good practices and the inexistence of prohibited chemicals in national legislation.

We promote the responsible use of phytosanitary products aimed at the eradication of chemicals in pest control and migrating to an integrated management through biological methods.

All of our independent suppliers signed a commitment to comply with our NDPE Policy.
