Grupo HAME through its company REPSA organized a celebration on the occasion of the International Women´s Day, for women of the different communities of the area of influence of our company. This activity was carried out at facilities of the Environmental Agricultural Field School (ECA for its acronym in Spanish).
During the celebration, talks on women´s rights and promotion of grievance culture were given. As part of the activity and with the aim to promote women entrepreneurship and to boost community economy, a market of vegetables and other artisanal products where women could sell crops from their orchards was carried out.
During the activity, representatives of the Women´s Municipal Direction, the Women Prosecution Office from the Public Ministry, the Advocay of Indigenous Women, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA for its acronym in Spanish) and the Municipal Office of Community Integrated Development (OMDIC for its acronym in Spanish) participated.
Doña Candelaria Chub from Caserío el Jordán shared her experience “Thanks to God because we are able to be here with you, as organized women from the community El Jordán, thanks to Sagrada Tierra whom trained us to do hammocks and bags like the one that I am carrying, in this way we can earn a bit of money to help our household economy, and we are not waiting for our husband to come with his salary, we have orchards where we grow everything to eat, and that is of great help, so I encourage you to do the same and take advantage of every opportunity to learn because it help us tremendously”
Concepción Zuleta from El Tucán shared with us: “I came to participate in this activity, and taking advantage of this I am exhibiting my product for all fellow women who came, I do these aprons and sell them for Q10.00 a piece, in this way I contribute to my household. Everything I learned it here at the ECA and INTECAP, thanks to the support of the Women´s Municipal Office and the company REPSA, without them we wouldn´t know which now allows is to look for income sources, and not only we were trained in these topics, here we have been taught how to grow an orchard in our house, bakery training, cheese and cream making that helps us a lot in our home”
